SK Telecom Co., the leading telecommunications operator in South Korea. and the shipbuilder, Samsung Heavy Industries Co., said on Tuesday that the test for the 5G-powered remote control ship was successful.
A 3.3-meter model ship made by Samsung Heavy uses Samsung Heavy Industries Co. in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, using SKT’s 5G network. He successfully sailed near his shipyard.
The model ship was controlled from the remote control center in Daejeon, about 250 kilometers north of the shipyard.
The test also confirmed that it was an autonomous navigation system that allowed the ship to reach its destination on its own and eliminate nautical obstacles with a 5G connection.
