The Guangdong Maritime Safety Administration said on Wednesday that China’s first naval patrol vessel with a tonnage of over 10,000 tons was built and will be operated by Guangdong Maritime Safety.

Designed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the 165-meter-long and 10,700-ton tonnage will be China’s largest and best-equipped naval patrol vessel.

The ship can carry multiple different types of helicopters and can perform search and rescue missions as well as inter-regional patrols in difficult sea conditions.

Officials said that as the flagship of China’s offshore patrol, search and rescue, the ship will greatly improve maritime security in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

There are currently five naval patrol ships in China with a tonnage of more than 1,000 tons.
