Barcelona plans to become the LNG Bunker Hub in the Mediterranean.

Port of Barcelona reported that in 2019 it completed 18 LNG refueling, including AIDAnova and Costa Smeralda cruise ships (Cruise Vessels).

It is reported that 37.200 cubic meters of LNG ship fuel was supplied to the total ships. LNG supplies are carried out with the fuel barge named Coral Methane and five land tanker. LNG delivering barge named Coral Methane has a tank capacity of 7,551 cubic meters. Combined LNG / LPG / LEG carrier “Coral Methane” was built in 2009 as the world’s first small-scale combined LNG / LPG / LEG carrier and launched to service. In addition, supplies are made by five, 400 cubic meters of additional tankers.

According to the information provided by the Port of Barcelona, 10 percent of cruise traffic in 2020 will be LNG fueled ships.

Barcelona states that it has positioned itself as the main supply center of LNG in the Mediterranean.
